TI Awarded Most Innovative RF IC for 90nm BlueLink 5.0 Bluetooth Single Chip

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

San Francisco, California, June 12, 2006 — Semiconductor Insights (SI), the leader in technical and patent analyses of integrated circuits and electronic systems, today recognized Texas Instruments Incorporated’s 90nm BRF6300 BlueLink™ 5.0 single-chip solution for Bluetooth Specification v2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate with its Most Innovative RF IC Insight Award at the Annual IEEE RFIC Symposium being held this week in California.

"While competitors continue to struggle with delivery of a single chip Bluetooth solution at 130nm and above, TI has successfully realized commercial production of a highly integrated digital 90nm CMOS single chip solution supporting Bluetooth 2.0," stated Cedric Paillard, SI's VP TECHinsights. "The BRF6300 builds upon the success of TI's 130nm BRF6150 single chip and offers a tremendous advantage in scalability, power efficiency, size and cost over competing analog-centric RF solutions."

TI's BlueLink 5.0 solution integrates the baseband, RF transceiver, ARM7 TDMI, memory, and power management onto one piece of silicon, reducing the external passive components required by nearly half over previous generations, while achieving an impressive die size of 10mm2, as measured by SI. The BRF6300 leverages TI's 90nm advanced CMOS process and DRP™ digital RF technology and also provides the foundation to realize Software Defined Radio (SDR).

SI's analysis of the 90nm BRF6300 and the previous generation 130nm BRF6150, demonstrates that one of TI's critical success factors in shrinking its RF design across nodes is a reduction in the amount of analog circuitry.

"The BlueLink 5.0 chip extends TI's leadership in providing wireless solutions in 90nm and is the third single-chip Bluetooth solution using TI's DRP technology," stated Paul Werp, Business Director for TI’s Mobile Connectivity Solutions. "We are honored to be recognized by SI for our technical innovations and achievements in RF with the BRF6300."
